Quality Is Top Priority When Finding Eldercare

Nearly 40 percent of those caring for older loved ones said “finding high-quality care” is their top priority when finding eldercare, according to a poll we conducted online throughout the month of April. Here are the full results of the poll:

If you care for an older loved one, what is your top priority when finding care for her/him?

Finding high-quality care — 39%

Finding care that can handle my loved one's special needs — 26%

Finding affordable care — 21%

Finding care during the hours/days that I need — 4%

Finding care that is conveniently located — 2%

Another eight percent cited a variety of other reasons, each representing less than one percent. These included: finding someone trustworthy; finding a live-in caregiver; transportation; and managing my own time to provide care.

The study also found that 70 percent of caregiving employees report taking time off from work to attend to caregiving responsibilities.
