New NCOA Screening Tool Helps Elderly Save Money On Prescription Drugs
The National Council on the Aging (NCOA) recently launched BenefitsCheckUpRx,
a free screening tool that helps users find the best prices on prescription drugs. The tool
provides seniors (and those with lower income levels) with a comprehensive and personalized
listing of their eligibility for over 240 prescription drug programs covering nearly 800
medications. In addition to being free, the service is completely confidential.
According to NCOA President, James Firman, BenefitsCheckUpRx is a major
expansion to NCOA’s popular BenefitsCheckUp, a Web site that that has provided more than
820,000 eligibility reports for federal and state benefit programs to older Americans. “By
visiting the Web site, older Americans, their families and caregivers can now quickly determine
what prescription savings programs a senior qualifies for and how to claim them. Once users
complete a brief questionnaire, the service displays a personalized report specifying all
the programs they are eligible for and detailed instructions on how to enroll.”
LifeCare’s Adult Care specialists have been trained in the use of BenefitsCheckUpand
the newly launched Benefits CheckUpRXand use the site regularly to deliver additional
information and referrals to employees. Specialists will remind employees about the site,
instruct them on how to use it, and even conduct searches on behalf of employees who don’t
have Internet access or prefer personalized assistance. If you haven’t seen the new site,
we encourage you and your employees to access this helpful program at www.benefitscheckup.org.
