Letter from the President
Dear Friends:

In my last letter, I commented on how the work/life industry has changed significantly over time to keep pace with people’s evolving needs. One of LifeCare’s recent employee polls shows just how true this is (see the article in the Work/Life Trends section). In this poll, client employees reveal their top work/life concerns for 2004. The ranking of these concerns might surprise you. Although child care is still one of their top issues, according to the poll results personal finances and personal health now rank higher on the list.

I believe this is a reflection of the aging of America’s population—and our workforce, in particular. As workers age, their concerns naturally shift toward health and wellness, financial security, and aging-related legal matters. This is precisely why LifeCare continues to evolve and enhance our service offerings. Over the past two years, we’ve strengthened our health and wellness resources, enhanced our financial and legal services, and developed market-leading aging programs such as our LifeVentures® retirement planning modules and our comprehensive, flexible GCM offerings.

We’ve also launched a truly unique partnership within our industry—an exclusive alliance with the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (NAPGCM) that will improve the delivery of elder care support nationwide (see the article, “Employers and Caregivers Nationwide to Benefit from New LifeCare Alliance” in the Headline News section).

These changes are, of course, just a start. LifeCare will continue to reshape and strengthen our services based on the changing needs of you and your employees. As always, we value your feedback and would appreciate knowing how we can serve your aging workforce needs more effectively. If you have ideas or suggestions, call us at 800-873-4636 or e-mail us at connection@lifecare.com.

On a personal note, I wanted to let you know that LifeCare’s various 2003 holiday clothing/food drives and charitable contributions were among the most successful we’ve ever held. For instance, as many of know, rather than sending out holiday cards to our clients and friends, we made a special donation (separate from the annual support we offer) to the Connecticut Department of Children and Family Services’ annual Adopt a Family Program. By doing so, we were able to provide holiday gifts for nearly 30 additional families in the Bridgeport area. I want to thank all of our clients and friends for supporting this decision—and for sending so many wonderful notes and e-mails encouraging us to do this.

Sincerely,

John B. Place

No—it's not Santa's workshop! It's LifeCare President, John Place, and Sandra Nichols surveying some of the gifts donated by LifeCare employees to the Connecticut Department of Children and Family Services' 2004 Adopt a Family Program.
