Shayne Parker and Lucent Technologies Recognized for Innovative Quality
Connections®
The Conference Board recently recognized Lucent Technologies’ Shayne Parker,
Senior Manager of the company’s Work/Family Programs, for her outstanding work on helping
to launch Lucent’s Quality Connections, an innovative program that provides intensive
training to child care providers in local communities. Quality Connections is administered
by LifeCare.
Parker and six other individuals were chosen from roughly 50 nominees to
be among the first people to receive The Conference Board’s Work-Life Innovators Award.
The Award is given to individuals who help their organizations create innovative responses
to or solutions for important work/life issues. The Conference Board’s Work-Life Leadership
Council made the final award decisions. Parker and the other winners were recognized at
the Conference Board’s 2002 Work-Life Conference in late June.
Quality Connections brings together local thought leaders and nationally
recognized training organizations who provide best-in-class training to local child care
providers. The program gives parents more confidence in their child care arrangements, which
in turn allows them to be more focused and productive at work.
Quality Connections was initially funded by the Lucent, Avaya and
Agere Family Care Development Fund in August 2000. The companies then selected LifeCare
to develop and administer the program. Initially implemented in communities within Georgia,
New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Quality Connections has since expanded and is making
a significant impact on the quality of child care nationwide. During the first phase of
the program, 100 percent of the participants gave the training “high” to “very high” ratings.
This pioneering child care initiative is now available to companies everywhere.
