Avoid the Holiday Backup Care Crunch

Backup child care

During the holidays, many schools and child care facilities close for vacation, leaving working parents in a pinch. And in many areas of the country, inclement weather brings unexpected closings. While LifeCare's Access Backup Care program helps employees locate providers in these situations, most providers require employees to pre-register, making last-minute care arrangements particularly difficult.

To encourage employees to pre-plan for their needs, LifeCare's child care specialists are proactively reminding client employees to plan ahead. We're also offering to send referrals and information regarding local backup care providers to employees.

Here are a couple of other good ideas from LifeCare clients to help you minimize backup care disruptions:

Offer employer-paid incentives (such as gift certificates) to employees who pre-register for backup care.

Help employees pay for the cost of backup care through subsidies. (LifeCare handles all of the administrative responsibilities, which help to make subsidies a cost-effective alternative.)

By having safe, reliable care and back-up care arrangements in place, employees are more focused at work and take fewer unplanned absences. Whether you offer our basic Access Backup Care services or our premium employer-subsidized program, now is the time to promote these valuable services before peak vacation times hit. LifeCare clients can ask their account manager for customized promotions. Non-clients can learn more about our Access Backup Care programs by contacting LifeCare at 800-873-4636.
