LifeCare Polls Reveal Truth About Why Employees Work Sick, How They Feel
About Flex Arrangements
Nearly 90 percent of those responding to a recent LifeCare poll admit to
working sick. What’s driving these employees into the office with colds, cough drops, and
crutches? Not necessarily true dedication. Here’s what they said:
| |
27 percent show up out of obligation (stressed about workload);
| |
24 percent feel it’s too risky to be absent;
| |
17 percent bankroll their sick time for child care emergencies;
| |
18 percent weighed in with a variety of other motives. |
Respondents to another LifeCare poll shared their feelings about how to
enhance their productivity:
| |
57 percent said that flex-time and flex-place (e.g., working
from home) arrangements would enable them to be most productive on the job;
| |
17 percent said they would opt for a compressed work schedule
(working a 40-hour week in only three or four-days);
| |
15% feel that working fewer hours would enable them to be more
productive by reducing their stress levels;
| |
three percent said that job-sharing would enhance their productivity;
| |
seven percent identified “other” options. |
LifeCare conducted these month-long polls online among the employees of
its 1,500 client companies nationwide.
