61 percent of workers in private industry have access to retirement benefits, 71 percent have access to medical plans, and 77 percent have access to paid holidays and paid vacation time. The Evercare/National Alliance for Caregiving Study found that found that half of those caring for a loved one 50 years or older spend, on average, more than 10 percent of their annual income on caregiving expenses. (Caregivers spend $5,500/yr. out-of-pocket, United Press International, 11/29/2007)

For the older Americans who lose independence each year, the increase in medical and long-term costs is 26 billion dollars greater than if they had maintained independence. (Alliance for Aging Research, June 2006)

By 2010, about 85 percent of the U.S. work force will consist of parents, and the number of working women will exceed that of working men, according to a study sponsored by the National Child Care Association. (Demand for Child Care Increasing, The Hartford Examiner, 9/12/07)
