Weight Management Tops List of Health Concerns

Weight Management Tops List of Health Concerns

When it comes to our personal health, weight management continues to dominate our concerns, according to a recent poll by LifeCare. Forty-nine percent of respondents cited weight management as their primary concern, with general health coming in second at just 18 percent. Here are the full results of the poll:

When it comes to your personal health, what is your main area of concern?

Weight management — 49%

General health — 18%

Heart health — 11%

Diabetes — 4%

Blood pressure — 3%

Smoking cessation — 1%

Another 15 percent of respondents checked Other, citing a variety of concerns (and each representing less than one percent) including healthy aging, cancer and mental health, among others.

Most employers these days are well aware of the negative business impacts of poor employee health, so many of them are already taking steps to help people make better lifestyle choices, said LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki. Our clients, for example, are offering healthier food in their cafeterias and vending machines, some are offering financial incentives to lose weight or stop smoking, and others are reimbursing employees for their gym memberships and enrollment in weight management programs.

Burki says that LifeCare recently added a new line of health-oriented SelfCare KitsSM to its offerings to help clients take another step forward in their efforts to support better employee health. SelfCare Kits are a unique series of kits filled with an array of innovative products and tools designed specifically to foster independent self-care and long-term health improvements.
