LifeCare® Poll:
How's Your Work/Life Balance?
WESTPORT, CT, June 21, 2007 – Just
about everyone struggles with balancing their work and
personal lives at timesbut how successful are
we overall? A new poll from LifeCare®,
Inc., provider of comprehensive specialty care services
and a longtime leader in the work/life industry, sought
the answer. Here are the results of the poll, which
was conducted in May on LifeCare's private web site
among employees and members of its 1,500 client organizations:
When it comes to balancing
your work and personal life, how do you feel you rate?
| |
 |
I'm somewhat balanced
43%
|
| |
 |
I'm somewhat unbalanced
28%
|
| |
 |
I'm very balanced
16%
|

 |
I'm very unbalanced
13% |
“From an employer's perspective, the
good news is that 59 percent of employees feel they're
lives are very or somewhat balanced,” said LifeCare
CEO, Peter G. Burki. “That's no small accomplishment
given the realities of modern life. But it's equally
important to note that 41 percent of respondents characterize
their situations as somewhat or very unbalanced, which
means employers have a real opportunity to help people
better manage their lives, reduce stress and live more
productively.”
To help employers do exactly that,
Burki says that LifeCare rolled out several new services
during the past few months including:
| |
 |
Care Connection,
a customized social networking service that enables
friends, family and colleagues to assist individuals
with major challenges and life events (e.g., welcoming
a new baby, coping with a serious medical issue
or a natural disaster, etc.).
|
| |
 |
Backup Care ConnectionSM,
a program which helps people avoid missing work
when their regular child and elder care arrangements
break down.
|
| |
 |
Homework Connection,
a service which gives working parents peace of mind
while offering students a whole new level of personal
attention by giving them direct, unlimited access
to professional tutors in all core subjects.
|
| |
 |
A host of new
online and onsite work/life seminars
that address child care and parenting, adult care,
professional development, daily life and more.
|
| |
 |
And a
new work/life blog and podcast
have been added to the company's web site to help
people deal with the full spectrum of work/life
challenges. |
“Programs like these are quickly becoming
must-have recruitment and retention tools, especially
for employers who want the best talent available,” Burki
says. As proof, he cites a recent article on Forbes.com,
in which 85% of recruiters said that they have seen
candidates reject a job offer because it wouldn't include
enough work-life balance, and 90% of recruiters said
that work-life balance considerations are now more important
to workers than they were just five years ago.
Each month, LifeCare posts a poll on
its private members' web site asking individuals to
share their thoughts and opinions on the latest issues
and work/life trends. Past polls have addressed topics
such as stress, family caregiving challenges, aging,
flexible work arrangements, and barriers to on-the-job
productivity.
