LifeCare® Aging Poll: What Lifestyle Change
Would You Make?
WESTPORT, Conn., October 12, 2006 – Getting fitterphysically
and fiscallytops the lifestyle “wish list” of most people as they get
older, according to a poll by LifeCare®, Inc., provider of comprehensive
specialty care services and a longtime leader in the work/life industry. The
poll was conducted on LifeCare's private web site during the month of September
and asked participants, “If you were to change one thing about your lifestyle
as you age, what would it be?” The results were:
| |
 |
36% Exercise more
|
| |
 |
21% Get my financial/legal affairs in order
|
| |
 |
14% Reduce stress
|

 |
11% Eat healthier

| |
 |
10% Work on personal relationships
|
| |
 |
4% Stop smoking
|
| |
 |
1% Eliminate caffeine

3% Other |
LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki, believes the poll offers employers
and member-based organizations strategic insight into ways to connect with individuals
in mid-life and beyond. “Employers who want to retain and motivate an aging
workforce, for example, should consider offering employees discounts on gym
memberships or access to programs that help with financial or legal planning.
They might also offer stress reduction programs, healthy diet workshops or smoking
cessation classes. The bottom line is that employers who help with lifestyle
issues show that they care about people on a personal level. And that will definitely
translate into higher satisfaction, commitment and retention levels.”
The same goes for member-based organizations, Burki says, and
other companies looking to attract and retain middle-aged audiences. “By giving
members, customers and other key constituencies assistance with lifestyle challenges,
these organizations will differentiate themselves in their markets, win new
market share, and raise satisfaction and loyalty levels.”
One convenient way that employers and other organizations can
address all of the lifestyle issues cited by the poll's respondents is to work
with a high-quality specialty care provider such as LifeCare. LifeCare delivers
a variety of health and wellness and Successful AgingSM services
including exercise and healthy eating expertise, life coaching to stay active
and engaged, financial and legal planning services, stress reduction resources,
smoking cessation programs, retirement planning workshops, and a wealth of online
tools and educational materials that address all of these aging-related lifestyle
issues and more.
Each month, LifeCare posts a poll on its private members' web
site asking individuals to share their thoughts and opinions on the latest issues
and work/life trends. Past polls have addressed topics such as family caregiving
challenges, stress, healthy aging, flexible work arrangements, special needs
children, and barriers to on-the-job productivity.
