Weight Management Tops List of
Health Concerns, LifeCare® Poll Shows
WESTPORT, CT, October 24, 2007 – When
it comes to our personal health, weight management continues
to dominate our concerns, according to the latest online
poll conducted by LifeCare®, Inc., provider
of comprehensive specialty care services and a longtime
leader in the work/life industry. Forty-nine percent
of respondents cited weight management as their primary
concern, with general health coming in second at just
18 percent. The poll was posted on LifeCare's private
web site during the month of September and open to employees
of its 1,500 client organizations. Here are the full
results of the poll:

Another 15 percent of respondents checked
“Other”citing a variety of concerns (each representing
less than one percent) including “healthy aging,” “cancer”
and “mental health,” among others.
“Most employers these days are well
aware of the negative business impacts of poor employee
health, so many of them are already taking steps to
help people make better lifestyle choices,” said LifeCare
CEO, Peter G. Burki. “Our clients, for example, are
offering healthier food in their cafeterias and vending
machines, some are offering financial incentives to
lose weight or stop smoking, and others are reimbursing
employees for their gym memberships and enrollment in
weight management programs.”
Burki says that LifeCare recently added
a new line of health-oriented SelfCare KitsSM
to its offerings to help clients take another step forward
in their efforts to support better employee health.
SelfCare Kits are a unique series of kits filled with
an array of innovative products and tools designed specifically
to foster independent self-care and long-term health
improvements.
“Getting employees to make lasting,
sustainable changes to their lifestyles can be a challenge,”
Burki said. “But if you succeed, it can pay huge organizational
dividends. Our SelfCare Kits put truly engaging tools
directly into employees' handstools they'll really
want to use over the long-term. And that's the key to
getting measurable, bottom-line results.”
Each month, LifeCare posts a poll on
its private members' web site asking individuals to
share their thoughts and opinions on the latest issues
and work/life trends. Past polls have addressed topics
such as stress, family caregiving challenges, aging,
flexible work arrangements, and barriers to on-the-job
productivity.
